Eddie Bayers is Nashville’s first-call drummer and certainly one of the busiest musicians in the world. A list of his credits would be too large to fit on this page, but a partial list of stars he has worked with include Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Steve Winwood, Peter Frampton, Bob Seeger, Triisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, and Kenny Chesney. He has received the Drummer of the Year Award for 11 straight years, something that no other artist or musician has done. He was elected to the NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) Board of Governors in 1992 through 1994 and 1997-2001 Eddie has also been working as a producer. Artists Eddie has produced include Rosanne Cash, Glen Cambell, Lane Brody as well as and the soundtrack of the movie, A Thing Called Love. Part 3: Techniques of Video Game Music Implementation Video games garner bigger budgets and higher quality scores than ever before. Come hear the Video Game Music Club introduce techniques and concepts for implementing music into the game engine. This forum covers topics such as: - Introduction to implementation: what is it? What does it do? Why do we need implementation? What is middleware software? - Presentation of various in game situations which require adaptive audio (footage from actual games) - Brief overview of audio "middleware" solutions (wwise, fmod, etc.) - focus on Audiokinetic's Wwise engine: - bringing audio into the program - linking events to audio and music - trying out the results
Don Was
Open to MT Division Students only: You are all invited to a very special visiting artist event with legendary super-producer, Don Was. Don will be playing demos from the 5 Rolling Stones albums he has produced, as well as a wide range of other artists from his discography. Discussion will focus on the development of artist demos into the finished albums; diplomacy in working with artists the stature of the Stones; and his reflections on the current trends in modern record production.
"THERAMIN: AN ELECTRONIC ODYSSEY" film screening
This 1994 documentary tells the unexpected history of the electronic instrument and its inventor Leon Theremin. The film will be shown at Coolidge Corner Theater at 7pm on Monday Jan. 19. Before the film, MIT Professor of Music and Media Tod Machover will discuss his pioneering work as a composer and inventor of new technologies for music. This program will also feature Q&A with Machover after the movie and a short performance by orchestral thereminist Dalit Hadass Warshaw, a faculty member in the composition/theory department at the Boston Conservatory.

Eclipse Master Class
This event, made possible by Fujitsu Ten in Association with Berklee, merges the classical and music technology worlds in a very interesting way. This initiative, in which Fujitsu Ten collaborates with different colleges and universities around the globe, involves students in the production and promotion of the event. Also, Its free! Award-winning Scottish cello virtuoso Peter Gregson performs a wonderful program in Boston's Trinity Church, one of the most beautiful acoustical venues of the United States. The concert includes the US premieres of six leading composers from the United Kingdom and features a 40-cello arrangement of Thomas Tallis's Renaissance masterpiece "Spem in Alium." Composer Milton Mermikides (Professor of Music Technology, Royal Academy of Music, London) will operate live interactive electronics and a unique 10-speaker Eclipse TD 712z system. After the concert, Peter Gregson will lead a short Masterclass.

School of Sound: Larry Sider at Coolidge Corner
The Coolidge Corner Theatre has chosen animation luminaries the Quay Brothers as the recipients of the 2009 Coolidge Award, to be celebrated May 6-7. The Coolidge will present a variety of programs including SCHOOL OF SOUND ON THE QUAY BROTHERS on Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. Larry Sider, founder and director of the internationally respected School of Sound in London and collaborator with the Quay Brothers for over 20 years, will lead a dynamic and entertaining tutorial in conversation with the Quays, focusing on the creation of the sound element in their films. At this interactive event, punctuated by cinematic excerpts, audience members will be fully immersed in the mesmerizing aural/visual world created by these artists.

Q Parker: Writing a Hit Record
Q Parker is an award winning vocalist, songwriter, producer and member of the multi-platinum recording group 112. He is credited with the mellow R&B vocals that define the 112 signature sound. 112 was the first group signed to P “Diddy” Combs. It’s debut album went double platinum and produced two hit singles: “Only You” and “Cupid”. Q Parker recently has been crafting his solo album entitled “Real Talk” and has released the first single “ Still So Sexy”. In addition, Q established his own production company NeWFAM Entertainment, which specializes in the development of new artists.

MT Division students are invited to a very special visiting artist event with legendary super-producer, Don Was.
Don's deep musical roots, righteous talents as a bass player and multi-instrumentalist, and his unassuming personal style, have led him to produce some of the most diverse and significant artists of our time. From the The Rolling Stones, The B52's, Bonnie Raitt, Cheb Khaled, Michelle Shocked, Iggy Pop, Elton John, and Ziggy Marley, to Maryann Faithfull, Bob Dylan, The Chieftans, Solomon Burke, Ofra Haza, and of course the seminal albums from Was not Was - there is no pigeon hole for his body of work.
Don will be discussing his recent work with the Rolling Stones; his relationship with longtime engineer, Krish Sharma; and the world of record production as he sees it in 2009 and beyond.

Levitin is a rock star of science who has worked with Sting, David Byrne, and others. Cash, who has been performing, recording, and writing songs for 30 years and is the daughter of the legendary Johnny Cash, underwent brain surgery in 2007 and brings a unique perspective to music on our minds. Film: Copyright Criminals
Copyright Criminals is a documentary that traces the rise of hip-hop from the streets of New York to a billion-dollar international industry. It explores the legal battles musicians have faced for "borrowing melodies" and asks the question can someone own a sound.
The film showcases many of hip-hop music's founding figures like Public Enemy, De La Soul, and Digital Underground-while also featuring emerging hip-hop artists from record labels Definitive Jux, Rhymesayers, Ninja Tune, and more. It also provides an in-depth look at artists who have been sampled, such as Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown's drummer and the world's most sampled musician), as well as commentary by another highly sampled musician, funk legend George Clinton.

Legendary producer and performer Don Was will be performing with a student vocalists and instrumentalists THURSDAY at the BPC.
The set list includes songs made popular by Was (Not Was) such as "Walk the Dinosaur," "Somewhere in America," and their cover of "Papa Was a Rollling Stone," plus hits by legends including "Born in Time" by Bob Dylan, "Good Man Good Woman" by Bonnie Raitt and Delbert McClinton, "Crying" by k.d. lang and Roy Orbison, and "You Got Me Rockin'" by the Rolling Stones.
